Guest Post from Author Brooke Williams

Guest Post Topic:

Your novel involves the concept of putting money above other aspects of life. Talk us through this concept and how its involved in your novel.

Money is a huge deal in this world, is it not? Sadly, it seems as if people are driven by money on a daily basis. They have it…they want to spend it…they hoard it…they don’t have it…they need it. It causes constant problems! In “Wrong Place, Right Time,” the main character, Kate Covington is in a huge amount of debt. She’s living paycheck to paycheck. And not because she went crazy shopping with her credit card either. Her debt is noble and justified. But it’s still debt and she desperately needs to clear her name. On the other end, we have Chad Leida who appears to be practically rolling in money, though he hasn’t done much to earn it himself. He wants to do what he wants to do and that’s that.

So though money is brought up and a very important aspect of this novella, it is also not at the highest level of importance. The characters realize their focus is off at times and make adjustments accordingly. In the end, it’s more about emotions, companionship, love, ambition and maybe even a little attitude.

I hope you enjoy all of the elements of “Wrong Place, Right Time” and how they come together. When you set your e-reader down after finishing this book, I hope there’s a smile on your face and laughter in your heart.

Blog Tour: Apocalypta by Robin Matchett @RobMatchettAuth

Approach to Apocalypta by Rob Matchett

What people should know about the book…

Apocalypta is a novel about the future, perhaps even a novel from the future. I emphasize from because the setting of the novel is on the cusp of the 25th century and the story takes us back in time to our present 21st century. So it would seem in a sense that the story in the future is built on the past retrospective to our present time. I felt that it was important to capture to the best of my ability a realistic scenario of times to come.

Obviously, one can never know the future until it happens, but using a template of the past 400 years and its historical shocks and paradigm shifts, a fair guesstimate can be made. What is especially interesting is the sudden trajectory of technical progress within the last 30 years with the advent of global use of the internet through chip circuitry and fibre optics which apparently had their origin from alien technology according to highly placed sources that the author had researched.

A very credible source was Col. Philip Corso who was ordered to seed the reverse-engineered alien technology into the military-industrial complex 60 years ago. Corso sat on the National Security Council. Others have affirmed the veracity of his position and rank and revelations in his book The Day After Roswell. One might think this is ridiculous or delusional because there was not barely any notice taken of his story which came out in the 1990s. The media basically ignored it, because they couldn’t get any endorsement from any legitimate government agency.

Not surprising. Perhaps, the powers that be felt it couldn’t hurt the classified nature of deeply compartmentalized alien programs if a little information was released innocuously by a retired officer of the army. Or perhaps, little by little some plan had been enacted to slowly acclimatize the ignorant public about what is really going on. Anyone who knew the emphatic truth would naturally wonder why the media didn’t proclaim globally AMERICAN GOVERNMENT HAS MADE CONTACT WITH ALIENS! Well, that has yet to happen. Is there collusion in government to suppress that kind of mainstream exposure? Or is media frightened of the shocking nature of that kind of information – the most profound in the history of civilization.

My book isn’t so much about this; just that the premise of this great secret kept from the public has a karmic resolution down the ages to come. Just as we discover and unlock secrets of the past, and history is constantly being rewritten to reflect new understandings, and so in our story we unlock the secrets of our present from the future. Whistleblowers have given us a glimpse of the deep political nature of forbidden knowledge and its uses in the power structures of global supremacy and security. Moreover, the phenomenal implications of a universe replete with thousands upon thousands of ancient civilizations, some hundreds of millions of years beyond us, and others only fifty thousand or so years beyond us, at least must give us pause as to our precarious emergence as a technological upstart.

Apocalypta is really about humanity and how we must adapt eventually to the universal family. And yes, we are apparently in a relative way, seen as such for the most part in spite of various bad apples on both sides. It should be known we are feared as somewhat barbaric and do not want our participation in a larger sense until we have managed our global destructive ways into something harmonious politically, culturally and ecologically. Indeed we have a long way to go – thousands of years.

Apocalypta attempts to enlighten our darker fears and dystopian defaults. Certain characters such as Cephren, Flower Child, Jimmy Pidgeon and Heyoka are new prototypes that alight the path to harmony for the ages to come. These types exist in all times, as well as their darker opposites. This is my story for humanity’s leap into the future and integration into the galactic community, which has already begun.

Meet the Author

Rob (Robin) Matchett was born in Paris, France, in 1956 of Canadian parents, and moved to Canada at four years old. Apparently on the way, he spent hours in a porthole watching the sea, pondering existence. Now his life continues through a porthole – a regret being he didn’t remain in France a few more years.

Though, embracing Canada he went native, steeped in the elements from where land-locked on the crest of a giant windblown hill, he commands from the bridge of a ship, foundered on springs, fields and forests. Still unreleased from the yoke of his servitude, he dabbles in the stars, unlocking secrets from history and the future. Many transfigurations have occurred, of which he has faithfully transcribed into various literary forms, including novels, poems and film scripts, and continues to do so. Among other eclectic interests, he is known to be well-read; enjoy wholesome kitchen garden culinary pursuits; calvados; has musical inclinations, and often known to be wired into the Grateful Dead. He is of a retiring nature, addicted to movies and documentaries, considered a professional obligation rather than lesser appraisals.

More about Apocalypta

Apocalypta is a novel about a post-apocalyptic world at the cusp of the 25th century. With the discovery of a synaptic memory chip holding the memories of individuals in the past, there is an attempt to avert a return to the terrible conflagrations of the past. This chip - 'the eyes of god' - holds salvation through the truth. The main character, implanted with the chip, bids the reader to follow history back to our present time in order to understand the future. Moreover, humanity has a chance to become members of a galactic confederation, which through various species have been instrumental in our emergence from earliest times. Many unusual characters color this story, which is ultimately about the struggle for humanity to rise to a higher place in its long quest for survival.

ABOUT KELLY RISSER:

Kelly Risser knew at a young age what she wanted to be when she grew up. Unfortunately, Fairytale Princess was not a lucrative career. Leaving the castle and wand behind, she entered the world of creative business writing where she worked in advertising, marketing, and training at various companies.

She's often found lamenting, "It's hard to write when there's so many good books to read!" So, when she's not immersed in the middle of someone else's fantasy world, she's busy creating one of her own. This world is introduced in her first novel, Never Forgotten. Never Forgotten, a YA/NA Fantasy, will be released by Clean Teen Publishing in the Summer of 2014.

Kelly lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children. They share their home with Clyde the Whoodle and a school of fish.

Love is in the Air Giveaway!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR AT CLEAN TEEN PUBLISHING…

It's the month of love and Clean Teen Publishing wants to celebrate this month with a LOVELY GIVEAWAY where you can win your choice of a Cheryl's Cookie and Pretzel gift or a $25 Amazon Gift Card! This month we will be celebrating the epic love stories from our Clean Teen Publishing and Crimson Tree Publishing books, our book boyfriends and girlfriends—including an upcoming exclusive CTP book boyfriend quiz—and other romantic posts from our authors and maybe even a post or two from our very own Mr. Squirrel.

Huh? I'm not sure what you mean Mr. Squirrel. Oh wait… You want a book girlfriends quiz?

Well yeah, I mean obviously squirrels can have girlfriends… Well, at least it would make sense and all. We didn't leave the book girlfriend quiz out of this because we didn't think squirrels could have girlfriends. We didn't create a book girlfriend quiz because we just didn't think that guys would really want to fill out a questionnaire about their fictional book girlfriends. Are we wrong? Does the average guy… or squirrel… enjoy taking quizzes?

Okay then! So now that we are clear that Clean Teen Publishing does not discriminate against squirrels, nor do we believe that squirrels can't have girlfriends, let's get to the good stuff!

THE KEY by Jennifer Anne Davis

Release Date: November 15, 2013
Published by: Clean Teen Publishing

Within these pages lie kingdoms with castles and princes who fall in love with fair maidens, but make no mistake−this is no fairytale.

His father's kingdom is on the brink of upheaval and at the center of it all is an ordinary girl who could be the key to its undoing. When faced with the ultimate choice, will he choose the girl he's falling in love with or the kingdom he has sworn to protect?

An ordinary girl with an extraordinary past... All she wants is to be free. What she doesn't realize is that freedom comes with a price she can't afford to pay. She's forced to accept the proposal of a prince she despises, even though her heart belongs to someone else... his brother.

Seventeen-year-old Rema lives in a brutal kingdom where travel between regions is forbidden, people are starving, and looking at someone the wrong way can mean death. Nineteen-year-old Darmik is the king’s son and Commander of the King’s Army. He spends his days roving the island, doing his father’s bidding and trying to maintain control over the people.

When a chance encounter throws Rema and Darmik together, they share an instantaneous connection, but any sort of relationship between them is strictly forbidden. Darmik’s brother, the Crown Prince, notices Darmik’s interest in Rema and, in a calculated, political move, blackmails her. Faced with an impossible choice, Rema is forced to sacrifice her heart in order to save her family.

As Rema is taken to the palace with the Crown Prince, Darmik confronts the growing rumor that a legitimate blood heir to the throne exists and is trying to overthrow Darmik’s family. In Darmik’s quest to hunt down and kill the threat, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. Locked in the king’s castle, Rema finds herself a key player in a massive power struggle. When Darmik shows up, she’s not sure if she can trust him. The line between friends, enemies, and loyalty becomes blurred. As truths are unlocked, Rema understands that she just might be the key to finding the rightful heir and restoring peace to the kingdom… if she can manage to stay alive long enough.

Excerpt From: THE KEY

Rema politely curtsied. Prince Lennek stepped forward, closing the distance between them. The music started and he placed his hands on her, expertly gliding her around the dance floor. At first Rema was afraid she would trip over her own feet and fall, embarrassing herself and probably meeting everyone’s expectations, but she didn’t. Surprise washed through her, especially since she hadn’t danced with anyone other than her aunt and uncle. But Lennek was dancing a basic four-step foot pattern of which she was well acquainted.

“We haven’t properly met,” Prince Lennek commented. His voice was soft and smooth, like butter. She had the urge to reach out and caress his handsome face. He looked very much like his brother, Prince Darmik. Even Prince Lennek’s tattoo was similar to his brother’s, although Lennek’s black swirls appeared more like knives than flames, especially when the light shone on the silver in the marks. Rema forced herself to focus on the prince’s face, instead of his body.

“No, we haven’t met, Your Highness,” Rema said sarcastically, wanting to stand her ground. She wouldn’t allow him to see the slightest amount of infatuation or intimidation on her part. “So I find it rather interesting that you would summon me here. You are aware that I am engaged to be married?”

He twirled Rema around and pulled her back to him, his eyes sparkling with amusement. Rema felt everyone watching and appraising her. She tried to focus on the dance and Lennek, not allowing the people’s silent judgments to overwhelm her thoughts.

“I am Prince Lennek and you are Rema, the local horse merchant’s niece.” His voice was seductive. “And yes, you are currently engaged.” His head bent forward, his lips only inches from her ear. “But things can change. Nothing is set in stone,” he whispered.

She wasn’t sure what he was implying. Did he know she secretly didn’t want to marry? His strong arm slid lower on her back. Rema stumbled, but Prince Lennek changed directions, keeping her upright. She quickly regained her footing, only missing one beat.

“Who taught you to dance?” he pleasantly asked.

Her thoughts refocused on Lennek. “My aunt.”

“Interesting. Most people in the merchant class do not know the dances of the upper class—especially dances done with royalty.” His eyes held a questioning look, awaiting her answer.

“We are dancing ‘The Courting Dance,’” Rema replied. “It was so named because it is only danced at court, also because it is usually done when a member of the royal family has decided to court someone. It reveals his intentions to his court.”

Lennek’s eyebrows lifted up, surprised. “Why do you know the dance, then?” he inquired.

Was he insulting her? Before she could think her response through, she said, “Perhaps my aunt thought such a beautiful dance shouldn’t be wasted on a select group of people who truly can’t appreciate it.” She smiled sweetly.

“Do you have an answer to everything?” he asked, amused.

“Usually,” she replied, holding her head high.

Prince Lennek laughed and twirled her around again. This time, he pulled her in a little closer. Rema’s chest touched his. His warm hand held her tight. Without meaning to, she glanced up into his eyes. There was something hypnotic about them, and she was unable to look away.

“I am so glad you wandered into my life.” Prince Lennek chuckled, like it was a private joke. “You are the key to everything.”

The music ended and the prince glanced away from her, breaking the spell. She stepped back, about to return to her seat when Lennek grabbed her arm.

Shocked, Rema stared at him. His smile vanished. His eyes were cold, as if a mask had been ripped from his face. She tried to step away, but his grip only tightened.

“What do you want?” she whispered.

“You.”

It felt like spiders crawling over her skin. “You can’t have me,” she said.

His features softened. “Really? We’ll see.” He snickered, his mask of charm instantaneously back on and the harshness gone.

Prince Lennek motioned for his steward.

“Rema is leaving the party now.”
