Pandora Box Set: Invisible (DelSheree Gladden)

Part of the Pandora Box Set coming this August...

Invisible by DelSheree Gladden

Blurb

Olivia’s best friend is not imaginary. He’s not a ghost, either. And she’s pretty sure he’s not a hallucination. He’s just Mason.

He is, however, invisible.

When Olivia spotted the crying little boy on her front porch at five years old, she had no idea she was the only one who could see him. Twelve years later when new-girl Robin bumps into the both of them and introduces herself to Mason, they are both stunned.

Mason couldn’t be more pleased that someone else can see him. Olivia, on the other hand, isn’t jumping at the chance to welcome Robin into their circle. Jealousy may have something to do with
that, but honest fear that Robin’s presence will put Mason in danger is soon validated when a strange black car shows up outside Olivia’s house.

The race to find out what Robin knows in time to protect Mason from whatever threats are coming becomes Olivia’s only focus.

About the Author

DelSheree Gladden was one of those shy, quiet kids who spent more time reading than talking. Literally. She didn’t speak a single word for the first three months of preschool, but she had already taught herself to read. Her fascination with reading led to many hours spent in the library and bookstores, and eventually to writing. She wrote her first novel when she was sixteen years old, but spent ten years rewriting and perfecting it before having it published.

Native to New Mexico, DelSheree and her husband spent several years in Colorado for college and work before moving back home to be near family again. Their two children love having their seventeen cousins close by. When not writing, you can find DelSheree reading, painting, sewing and trying not to get bitten by small children in her work as a dental hygienist.

Review: Blind Rage (T. Hammond)

The last year of Teresa's life has been more than the word "difficult" can even begin to cover. Blinded in a freak accident, attacked in her own home, betrayed by the man she loved... that's the end of it, right? Teresa's luck is not that good. While anticipating David's return and the close of their once strong relationship, Teresa must face new terrors, hoping that her friends can save her in time.

This is book 4 in the Team Red series, and it has been a crazy ride up to this point! Everything Teresa has faced already makes your heart break to think she's in for more danger, but it also makes it impossible to put this book down.

I had already grown to love the characters in this series, so dropping right back into their lives was no issue at all. From the first page, though, the anxiety surrounding talk of David's return grabs readers attention. He is, after all, the one who broke Teresa's heart despite seeming like the perfect guy. Teresa is a better woman than me, because she has agreed not only to David's return to her home, but also his wife (yes, wife) who is dying of cancer, and his son coming to live in her house as well. Suffice it to say, there's enough awkward tension to go around.

David's arrival, however, is not the main focus of the book, which I was a little surprised by. I thought the majority of the story would deal with both Teresa and David's reactions to being in the same house and trying to deal with Marcia's final days. It actually only comprises about the last quarter of the book. I would have liked to have seen Teresa interact with Marcia and Wes (David's son) a little more and see that dynamic, but I expect that may be something we'll see more of in book 5.

The main storyline of the book centers around the protection of Bas and David's business and Wild Horse Security's increasing involvement, and how the top secret nature of the work puts Teresa in a very terrifying situation. I don't want to give away spoilers, so I'll just sum up my comments on this storyline by saying it was well crafted, highly anxiety-ridden, and kept me turning pages as fast as I could. And Bas... it's awesome to see him in action.

Now, I can't forget the romantic side of the story. I was a Bas fan from the beginning, and I was happy to see him finally get the chance he deserved with Teresa. Bas is a very complex character and watching him and Teresa test out the waters of a relationship was just as captivating as the action scenes. Because neither Teresa nor Bas want to begin a relationship until things are settled with David (and he doesn't show up until the end of the book), their relationship doesn't venture too far into the physical realm until the end. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of steamy conversations previous to that to keep readers interested.

Normally, I don't comment much on the more intimate scenes in a book, but I have to say that when Bas and Teresa do take their relationship to the next level, it was very well done. I don't mean that in the sense of descriptions or such. The scene is fairly descriptive, so that along with the decent amount of language means it's obviously not for younger readers, but I felt like the focus was as much or more so on the emotional connection being forged between them. They had both been through so much, been scarred in more ways than one, and hurt by others they trusted that to see them both be made vulnerable, open, and honest was actually very touching.

Overall, I still love this series, and I will be waiting eagerly for the next book.

Interview: Nicole Pouchet (author of Layla's Gale)

Today I'm pleased to welcome Nicole Pouchet to the blog to talk about her new book, "Layla's Gale."

First, a little about the book...

Life is finally on track for fledgling stage actress Layla Cohen until she realizes her gorgeous new director, Sebastian, is the star of the erotic dreams which she’s been having for months. She could handle the uncomfortable work situation if not for the further evidence she’s losing her mind: The wind suddenly whooshes at her command; memories of a past life emerge; and she’s sure someone is trying to kill her.

Meanwhile, director Sebastian Tawanti is steering his small D.C. theater company into the big-time with his Incan mythology-based play. The culmination of his life’s work, he won’t let anything stand in the way of his play's success--not his mother's objections, not the inappropriate heat he feels for Layla, and not even the mysterious, empathic symptoms he's experienced since meeting her.

LAYLA’S GALE is Book 1 of the four-book, paranormal romance / urban fantasy ELEMENTAL MYTHS romance series. Similar in subject matter, it is a lighter, more carefree read than Deborah Harness’ All Souls Trilogy. This paranormal romance series is sure to entice readers of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series and Marjorie M. Liu's Dirk and Steele series. ELEMENTAL MYTHS follows four couples as they bond together in steamy romance, supernatural powers, and predestined battle to save modern mankind from the mysterious demise of the vanished Incan Empire.

As Layla and Sebastian struggle with new love and burgeoning power, a sinister force unravels to fulfill an ancient prophecy. Will they learn the truth behind the Incan script in time to save their lives, the love they’re destined to share, and the future of humanity?

The Interview...

1. What inspired you to write this book?
Years ago, my husband and I were chatting about the Mayan calendar ending in 2012. He said it would be interesting if the world morphed into something spectacular at that date, as opposed to all the doom and gloom being predicted. His idea planted the seed for my Meso-American mythology based paranormal series.

2. Would you classify your writing more as plot driven or character driven?
I think I fall in love with my characters a bit. I want to be true to them, so I’m always trying to figure out exactly how they should respond in certain situations. That said, I won’t hesitate to drop them in horrendous predicaments if it further the plot. So, my writing is probably plot-driven.

3. Can you tell us a little about your main?
The main character of Layla’s Gale is Layla Cohen. She’s living in D.C. and trying to make it as an actress/waitress. Her biggest fear at the beginning is that she’s more waitress than actress. She’s determined to make her career work, devoted to her friends, and willing to make the “right” choices. But she’s always a little afraid that she’s not good enough.

4. Without giving away too much, tell us a little about the main conflict in this book.
Once Layla gets a big role in a play about Incan history, all kinds of mysterious things start happening. Along with inappropriate feelings for her director—and new boss—she’s suddenly having memories of a past life. The wind suddenly whooshes at her command and someone is trying to kill her. Layla must figure out the truth behind the play and their pasts before a sinister force unravels to fulfill an ancient prophecy.

5. What do you hope readers take away from your book?
Layla’s Gale is Book 1 of the Elemental Myths paranormal romance series. This book sets up the world of goddesses, reincarnation, and the responsibility we have to our fellow man. Along with these light topics, I hope people can relax into a light read and escape life into this world for a time.

6. Now for a few fun questions! What song best describes your writing style?
Ha! Probably “You Learn” by Alanis Morissette. It’s a song about screwing up over and over until you get it right. I am a big believer in the “shitty first draft.” So my writing is a mess at first, but I’m always happy that I started.

7. Night Owl or Early Bird?
I’d love to say Night Owl, but I think having kids coupled with insomnia has turned me into an Early Bird. I actually wrote the bulk of my novella, Cadence’s Cauldron, from 4-6am over two months. I couldn’t sleep, so I stopped fighting it!

8. Skittle or M&Ms?
Skittles, even better if they’re sour. I’m still waiting for the perfect time to set out a bowl mixed with both for company.

9. Who are your favorite authors?
I grew up reading poetry by Nikki Giovanni, and I love her work. Within my own genre, I love Diana Gabaldon, Marjorie M. Liu, and Karen Marie Moning.

10. Can you tell us about your future projects?
I’m currently writing Cadence’s Cauldron, A Paranormal Romance. It’s Book 2 of the Elemental Myths series and features a jazz singer in London. Look for it in the fall. And, I also just started a messy synopsis for a new series about shape shifters. I’m excited about both projects. It’s thrilling to get these ideas onto paper and finally out to the public.

You can get your copy of "Layla's Gale" on Amazon.

Dagonians loathe mermaids and Sara, Xanthus's wife, is no exception. Also, a Dagonian standing on human legs? As if being around the vile creatures responsible for polluting his home and killing his sister wasn't horrible enough, Kyros has to deal with Sara's troublesome human friend, Gretchen.

Kyros can't help but resent Gretchen. Not only is she human and unforgettably gorgeous, but she leaves him swimming in confusion and feeling things he shouldn't be feeling—least of all for a land-walker! When Gretchen is nearly killed by an assassin's bullet, Kyros's mission changes. He's forced to become her protector. Forced is a gross exaggeration, though. The more time Kyros spends with Gretchen, the more he finds himself falling for this spunky, witty human. When it becomes apparent that something dark and evil will stop at nothing to see Gretchen dead, Kyros expends his resources to find out who that being is. Then Sara Taylor rolls onto the scene. Xanthus knows at once she’s a criminal. And her crime? Being born. She’s a human/Dagonian half-breed, an abomination. Killing her should be an easy job.
