Cover Reveal: Blind Sided by T. Hammond

Blind-sided: Team Red, Book 5.

Excerpt

“… but, that wasn’t the biggest surprise,” Red paused dramatically, inadvertently re-gaining my wandering attention.

Not one to miss my queue, “What?” I asked, turning my head in his direction, even though I was limited to his current view: Hunter’s ass poking out from underneath the monitor console. Thanks Red.

Red’s head swung around so I was staring at myself as he shared, “Dexter finally asked her out on a date.”

“A date? Tara?” I guessed; although, it wasn’t too big a stretch. They’d been making goo-goo eyes at each other for a few weeks now.”

“What about Tara?” Dex asked suspiciously from a couple chair-lengths away, cementing my guess. My dog’s attention swiveled to follow the voice. Dexter squinted suspiciously toward Red.

“Red Report,” I explained. The mustangs were familiar with Red’s daily commentary to me over my first cups of morning coffee. “I’m getting the scoop on your upcoming date.”

“Dude,” Dex chided, “you promised. Bribes were given—your acceptance implied you had my back.”

Blurb

Teresa is buffeted by a whirlwind of activity.

Marcia and Wes have moved to Spokane, and the cancer vigil begins; her final wish is to see her son

celebrate his 10th birthday. Compassionate friends, Janey, Ken, Tara, and Jason, take over Marcia’s care in an effort to relieve stress as Teresa wages her relentless struggle against PTSD nightmares and paranoia.

Bastian is at an undisclosed East Coast location doing PreClan military software upgrades. At home, David is exerting subtle, yet unrelenting, pressure to give him a second chance, proving how little he understands the woman he professed to love. Will David’s obsession and persistence completely destroy his tenuous relationship with her and Bas?

Teresa takes comfort in Red’s constant and supportive presence. His antics and doggy wisdom keep her smiling as she waits not-so-patiently for Bastian to return. Tank bonds with Wes as the sad little boy watches his mom slip away.

The house is full of Mustangs, and the Wild Horse Compound, now affectionately referred to as Mustang Ranch, is only a few weeks away from completion. There is a feeling of security, yet not—Teresa’s anxiety attacks seem to disregard logic. Thankfully, the Team Red detail understands and supports her as she battles unseen demons.

WARNING: This book is a Laugh-Out-Loud paranormal extra spicy romance (A bold mesh of military tech, humor, and sex). The Team Red series contains a feisty blind woman; a snarky German shepherd who stalks low flying objects (and the occasional cat); two sexy retired Navy men with a talent for tactical planning; a man-cave with secret tunnels and classified military toys; Marilyn Monroe and other celebrity voices; and a herd of Mustangs. This book is INTENDED FOR MATURE ADULTS OVER 18. Contains sexual situations. Adult language was used, which is unfortunate, as the dog repeats everything.

Don't miss out on the rest of the Team Red Series!

He’s articulate, sassy and opinionated - he’s also scary-smart, and has a talent for tracking.

Teresa and Red, have partnered with David, and Bastian, to form Team Red. This unique Team helps the local police department sift through evidence to find forensic clues that only Red's sensitive nose, and Teresa's ability to ask the right questions can uncover. A twist of fate brings Team Red to the attention of the Military, and the Team gets ready for their first undercover mission (we can only divulge at this point that Red looks adorable in his tux).

About the Author

T. Hammond feels writing is not a calling so much as a compulsion. No one is more surprised than her when characters take over the plot and dialog, (re)directing stories in directions she had not (consciously) intended. Although she starts with a basic framework, she finds that one or two chapters into each novel, not only have characters shredded her outline into tiny unidentifiable pieces, they use the resulting confetti in a nose-thumbing parade. She is fully convinced the writer is merely the tool a story uses to tell its tale.
T. writes two concurrent versions of the Team Red series for both the Adult and New Adult audiences. Blind Seduction, Color Blind, Blind Faith, Blind Rage, and Blind-sided are part of the Blind series - featuring adult-themed erotic romance combined with a humorous paranormal storyline. The Red series featuring Red Rover, Red Zone, and Seeing Red (coming soon) is a funny paranormal romance series with a lighter less explicit storyline. While both series contain the same character names and a lot of shared dialogue, the Red series is stripped of sexual content and contains modified innuendo and language.
T’s first Urban Fantasy, Posse: Legends, is scheduled for Spring 2015, and will be her first book outside the Team Red series.

Review: Blind Rage (T. Hammond)

The last year of Teresa's life has been more than the word "difficult" can even begin to cover. Blinded in a freak accident, attacked in her own home, betrayed by the man she loved... that's the end of it, right? Teresa's luck is not that good. While anticipating David's return and the close of their once strong relationship, Teresa must face new terrors, hoping that her friends can save her in time.

This is book 4 in the Team Red series, and it has been a crazy ride up to this point! Everything Teresa has faced already makes your heart break to think she's in for more danger, but it also makes it impossible to put this book down.

I had already grown to love the characters in this series, so dropping right back into their lives was no issue at all. From the first page, though, the anxiety surrounding talk of David's return grabs readers attention. He is, after all, the one who broke Teresa's heart despite seeming like the perfect guy. Teresa is a better woman than me, because she has agreed not only to David's return to her home, but also his wife (yes, wife) who is dying of cancer, and his son coming to live in her house as well. Suffice it to say, there's enough awkward tension to go around.

David's arrival, however, is not the main focus of the book, which I was a little surprised by. I thought the majority of the story would deal with both Teresa and David's reactions to being in the same house and trying to deal with Marcia's final days. It actually only comprises about the last quarter of the book. I would have liked to have seen Teresa interact with Marcia and Wes (David's son) a little more and see that dynamic, but I expect that may be something we'll see more of in book 5.

The main storyline of the book centers around the protection of Bas and David's business and Wild Horse Security's increasing involvement, and how the top secret nature of the work puts Teresa in a very terrifying situation. I don't want to give away spoilers, so I'll just sum up my comments on this storyline by saying it was well crafted, highly anxiety-ridden, and kept me turning pages as fast as I could. And Bas... it's awesome to see him in action.

Now, I can't forget the romantic side of the story. I was a Bas fan from the beginning, and I was happy to see him finally get the chance he deserved with Teresa. Bas is a very complex character and watching him and Teresa test out the waters of a relationship was just as captivating as the action scenes. Because neither Teresa nor Bas want to begin a relationship until things are settled with David (and he doesn't show up until the end of the book), their relationship doesn't venture too far into the physical realm until the end. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of steamy conversations previous to that to keep readers interested.

Normally, I don't comment much on the more intimate scenes in a book, but I have to say that when Bas and Teresa do take their relationship to the next level, it was very well done. I don't mean that in the sense of descriptions or such. The scene is fairly descriptive, so that along with the decent amount of language means it's obviously not for younger readers, but I felt like the focus was as much or more so on the emotional connection being forged between them. They had both been through so much, been scarred in more ways than one, and hurt by others they trusted that to see them both be made vulnerable, open, and honest was actually very touching.

Overall, I still love this series, and I will be waiting eagerly for the next book.

Blind Rage: Team Red, Book 4 -- BLURB:

Fifteen months ago, an accident left Teresa March scarred and completely blind. Having chosen David after a lively Siege to win her love, Teresa was stunned by his admission, and subsequent desertion, on Christmas Eve.

Bastian Declan, David’s business partner and Teresa’s childhood friend, has loved Teresa for years. He wastes no time seizing this new opportunity to finally win her heart.

While David is stuck in Boston hoping to resolve the conflict and restore his relationship with Teresa, PreClan’s top-secret surveillance system is at a critical stage. Tension is high, and the house is full of very capable guards, after another foiled attempt to steal the technology. Teresa, vacillating between hurt at David’s deception, and wonder at Bastian’s potential, doesn’t fully appreciate the danger.

Teresa’s service dog, Red, is smart, opinionated, handsome, and can talk. Well, at least to Teresa anyway. Understandably excited by all the activity, will his vigilance and unique bond with Teresa be enough to keep her safe?

BLIND RAGE picks up where Blind Faith (book three) left off. While Bastian patiently shows Teresa he can be the partner she needs, they both want closure regarding her relationship with David. Will Teresa choose to forgive David, or will she open herself up to the possibility of a more tumultuous love?

WELCOME TO TEAM RED!

Blind Rage will have you gasping in shock, sad with empathy, and Laughing-Out-Loud (literally- some readers caution you should not eat or drink while reading, or you will be spewing food/liquids when you get to the funny parts... err, which make up a large portions of the book). This version of the series is INTENDED FOR MATURE ADULTS OVER 18. Contains graphic sexual content, and swearing, which is unfortunate as the dog repeats everything.

EXCERPT:

Smothering a yawn with the back of my hand, I reached for my coffee mug only to growl in irritation; it was just as empty as when I’d checked it fifteen minutes ago. I was still glaring at the cup in my hand when the back-passenger door opened beside me. My irritation must have still been evident, as Frost mumbled, “Uh, oh,” before slamming the door shut again.

A moment later, the opposite door cracked open, slowly. What? Was I a wild beast he felt he had to approach cautiously? The scent of coffee reached me before I registered Frost speaking. “Huh?”

He repeated, “Fritz’ coffee. Lukewarm. Takes it black, like you do. Left it unattended in t’ other vehicle. Fair game, right?”

I had no pride, and without hesitation, reached for the pilfered coffee with a groan of appreciation. “You are now, officially, my favorite guard,” I said solemnly.

Frost snorted. “Yeah, ‘til the next guy commits a crime to place a cup in your shaking hands,” he laughed. I sighed, wanting to protest but it was probably true. “Ole Rin Tin Tin there’s jus’ ‘bout done hamming for Russ. Prob’ly five minutes ‘til show time. Gonna tell me what’s really goin’ on?”

Bas and I had a pretty good idea Frost suspected Red and I had additional shared abilities. He didn’t talk much, but he was very observant. “You’re right. There’s more to this thing between Red and me; but truly Frost, you won’t believe it unless we show you.”

Frost was silent for only a moment, before he answered, “Believe, if you told me.”

I weighed his words, and decided he’d already committed misdemeanor coffee theft for me, that alone was deserving of a show of faith...

Review: Blind Faith (T. Hammond)

It's been a difficult year for Teresa March, to say the least. After a freak accident left her blind, she put her mind to relearning many of the day to day activities she once took for granted. Add in a talking and smart-mouthed dog, two gorgeous men competing for her love and attention, police assignments, and more danger than she ever expected to find herself in...well, Teresa is more than ready for a break. She thinks the much needed down time is right around the corner until her boyfriend and almost fiancee is forced to reveal he already has a wife, and son, when an accident put's his son's life in danger. Teresa is left to pick up the pieces and figure out what just happened.

Having already read the first two books in the series, I already loved the characters. I wasn't disappointed in this new addition to the series. In fact, I was thrilled Bas was such a focus. In earlier books, Bas and David compete for Teresa's attention, with David winning and Basbeing  forced to spend every day watching the two of them together while he works with David. I loved David's character from the beginning, but I always rooted for Bas. With David making such a monumental mistake by proposing to Teresa while still secretly married, it opens the door for Bas to challenge David's place at Teresa's side.

It was a bittersweet turn of events, though, because Teresa is devastated by David's actions. The level of emotion in this book is top tier. The characters take you through constant emotional ups and downs. It's impossible not to connect with them and feel everything right along with them. Teresa's pain is heartbreaking, yet there are beautifully sweet moments with Bas that soften the sting. Hammond did an excellent job of showcasing these two characters as they learned more about each other, and more about themselves. Red's attempt to understand everything and offer his two cents on the matter add lighter moments when it's needed to keep the emotional tenor balanced out.

In the previous two Team Red books, there was always a strong romantic current, but their work with the police and military played a big role in the story arc. I found that wasn't the case as much with this book, as it focused mainly on the turmoil Teresa and Bas go through as they deal with David's lies. To be honest, though, I really didn't mind. By book three I was so invested in the characters that I really enjoyed having so much of the focus being on their individual trials. The action isn't completely abandoned, however. In the last third of the book, several situations develop that leave the team not only defending their turf, but also showing what they can really do. Anyone would want Bas at their back in a fight!

Just as with the first two books, there are several scenes that are quite sensual and descriptive. There are also conversations dealing with sexual topics and there is a fair amount of profanity as well. This is meant for adult audiences, so readers should be prepared for that when they pick up a copy.

Character Interview: Team Red (Blind Faith by T. Hammond)

1. Blind Faith begins in the aftermath of David coming clean about the wife and child he hid from everyone. Mind you, this happened right after he proposed to Teresa. Guys, this was a really bad move! Back to the question, though. Bas, what ran through your mind when you found out what David had done?

Bas: The first reaction involved manslaughter and a long list of four-letter words! Thankfully, I’ve calmed down a little since then, so I’ll probably settle for an uppercut to the face, or a right hook to the stomach.
Teresa (laying a calming hand on his arm): Don’t forget Wes will be with him.
Bas: Babe, don’t think I didn’t notice you didn’t ask me not to deck him. *sighs* David is, was? No, he IS my best friend. Don’t get me wrong, I am still mad as hell.  We’ve been through some really tight places together. Even if Teresa hadn’t been involved in the situation, I would have been floored he kept this from me. I had to deal with not only my shock and anger, but I also completely empathized with Teresa’s pain. Then the realization of why he did it, so that I’d be iced out? Really pissed off doesn’t begin to cover the anger. Add to that hurt and confusion and well…  I still have regular urges to speak with my fists when I see him next, maybe I’ll settle for a full-contact ju-jitsu workout. He’ll be back in a couple days, so I have plenty of time to decide an appropriate greeting. I have to admit, the second reaction was he screwed up, so I can resume my pursuit of Teresa.

2. Teresa, you are a saint in dealing with David after his bombshell. How did you not take all his belongings and toss them out the window? And set fire to them, perhaps?

Teresa: Honestly, it kind of evolved; I certainly can’t take any credit for saintly behavior! Initially, I was too much in shock. He walked out on me, and I only wanted to curl up with the fragments of him I had left: memories, his scent on the pillow. Christmas was also a great distraction. Once I found my backbone I was able to think more logically. I didn’t doubt David loved me, but I began to question what that love was based on. Finally, my relationship with David has always been extremely civil, even when we disagree. Not only did it feel natural to carry that into this new stage, but being able to focus on his son also helped to temper any irrational thoughts.
Bas: Yeah, and then we hauled all his clothes to the spare room. I’m kinda likin’ the whole ‘toss them out the window’ and lighting a match idea, though.

3. The Siege of Teresa March began in book one, and Bas, you fully intend to resume, given David’s poor choices. I’ve always been in your corner, so I’m really rooting for you. Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently the first time around?

Bas: More wine?
Red: Chocolate donuts seem to help, too! *Teresa laughed then relayed Red’s comment*
Bas (taking a sip of Merlot): Looking back, I think my mindset didn’t help. In my head, I had waited years for an opportunity to show Teresa how I felt. It put a lot of pressure, on both of us. I had an objective, an agenda, and I was going about it like a bull in a damn china shop. If I’d had it to do over again, I think I would have spent less time focused on my mission objective, and more time showing Teresa she was my main priority. Thanks to Red’s observations, that’s how it has worked out, but it’s been a much rockier road than it needed to be.

4. Trying to explain a troubled relationship to a child can be tough, but explaining it to a dog? Red, can you explain your sense of “pack” a little and how David’s actions affected that?

Red (As relayed by Teresa): Our pack consists of David, Bas, Gil, Teresa and me. We all work and play together, and protect each other. I’m still confused why David made a pack with us since he already has a family. Teresa says David’s bringing Wes and Marcia home, so our pack will be bigger, and now I’m going to have my own boy to play with. But David’s in big trouble.

5. Despite defeat in the original Siege of Teresa March, Bas never stopped trying to protect and care for you, Teresa. How intimidating was it to realize his interest wasn’t as superficial as you thought it was in the beginning?

Teresa: I felt ashamed for having been so oblivious. Hindsight is always 20/20, isn’t it? People are the result of their life experiences, so the logical side of my brain tells me I’m enriched by my choice to be with David. Emotionally, dealing with his lies and betrayal have given me an appreciation for Bastian that wasn’t there before.
Bas (leans over to softly kiss Teresa’s temple): Thanks, Babe.
Teresa: There are still a lot of things to work out with David, and with Bas, so I don’t know romantically where it is all headed.
Bas: *snort* I’ll give you a few suggestions later, Babe.
Teresa (pointedly ignoring Bastian): During the Siege, I saw a new side of Bas, but there had been that little bit of doubt which two months of courting couldn’t erase. The last few weeks have shown me Bas’ feelings were deeper, and more lasting than I had realized; it was David who was obsessive. I don’t feel intimidated that I underestimated Bastian, but I feel the ache of his very real pain when I passed him over for another man. His strength and loyalty astound me- to think he he’s stayed close and watched over me, even after David won my heart- he’s a very special man. Bastian always has been, and always will be, someone I can rely on. This goofball, too. (Teresa ruffled the fur on Red’s head.)

6. Red, this one’s for you. How’s it going with Tank? Has the little wrecking ball of fur settled in yet?

Red (As relayed by Teresa): Oh, man, he’s into everything! I will say, Tank is the perfect name for him. Thank goodness, I can latch him into his crate when he gets too rambunctious. His personal philosophy seems to be- if there’s no trail- make one. He and Gil practice tracking or obedience every day while I watch. Sometimes I have to show him what Gil wants, but he’s learning. Our favorite game to play is hide and seek! Gil will tell me to go hide, and then Tank has to find me. Tank is getting good at cat stalking. It seems he’s only afraid of Dude. The other night Tank was the first one to sound the alert, so we were able to keep the cat out of the yard. I had to pounce on Tank and hold him down when he tried to go after the family of skunks. Teresa warned me about kennel incarceration if we tangle with one of them.

7. Watching your best friend steal away the girl you’re in love with has got to be torture. Bas, what kept you from giving up?

Bastian: It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done to walk away when she told me she’d made her choice and I wasn’t it. But, I want her to be happy. I hoped to be the man to give her a life of security and love, but it was easier to bear thinking David was providing that. So, I did sort of give up on the romantic dream with her. I mean, David is the perfect guy for her, right? I thought she’d always be with him; after all, she’s not an indecisive woman, prone to quick decisions. But, giving up doesn’t mean all the feelings went away. (Teresa’s hand reaches out and they link fingers.) Damn, I’ve loved this woman for half her life; it was alternately wonderful to see her so content with him, and heart wrenching to know it wasn’t me holding her every night. If David hadn’t been such an … err, a jerk, and lied to her – us, about being married, he may have worked things out. Teresa would have waited for him to resolve his issues if he’d been up front, after all, it’s not like he had a real marriage with Marcia. I want to punch him for hurting her, but now I have a foot in the door, and I plan to be here when she’s ready to move forward. I love this woman. I don’t plan to walk away again without a fight.

8. There were several fun surprises in this book to compliment the emotional turmoil. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but Bas, how eager are you to explore the rest of Teresa’s house?

Bastian: Best. House. Ever! David and I had a lot of fun with the hidden basement and the secret door through the pantry, but the other stuff revealed on the floor plans she showed us? Totally awesome. This is like every boy’s dream! Living in the country, I’ve had forts, and tree houses…   but I thought, when I became a man, I had to set all that aside. To find a real house with secrets? Definitely brings out the kid in me! Russ, Gil, and I have started exploring some of the hidden nooks and crannies- after all, we want to make sure everyone is safe. From a practical security standpoint, there are some potential defensive applications. But yeah, I gotta admit, the 10 year old kid inside me is jazzed.

9. Okay, Bas, one more for you. Teresa may not have been curious about your and David’s quick rejection of Florida mission, but I am! What’s the deal with Florida? If you can’t tell, will I at least find out in the next book?

Bastian: *laughing* You are not the first person to ask about Florida. Keep in mind, Blind Faith only covers a week or less in time. We actually pick up on the Florida thread and play with it a little for Blind Rage- so, sorry, no spoiler from me.

10. Last question. It’s for anyone willing to answer. What’s coming up next for Team Red?

Teresa: *laughing* It seems Red wants to get in on the answer to this one.
Red (Relayed by Teresa): David is coming and bringing me a boy! So we can be a bigger pack. And I’m getting a push button fob of my own. And Tank and I are building another cat trap…
Teresa: Red, I think DelSheree is referring to the plot for the next book, Blind Rage.
Red (Relayed by Teresa): But people want to know what Tank and I are doing, too. We’re good boys.
Teresa: Yes, you are. But let’s keep focused on what’s up for the group, okay?
Bas: Hey, Pal. Go grab a cookie for you and Tank (a scramble of paws as Red dashes for the pantry, with Tank trailing behind).
Teresa: Right now there is so much focus and energy going into the Wild Horse compound, and preparing for David’s arrival with his…  family…   it’s really impossible to think past all that. I am personally hoping for some more work with the local police department. The military is still asking us to reconsider the job in Florida.
Collective chorus from Bas, and two guards listening from the doorway: Not going to Miami, Teresa.
Teresa *sigh*: I think it would be positive for me to function a bit more independent of the guys, but obviously, not in Florida.
Bas (taking kissing Teresa’s hand): We’ve got the PreClan projects, and deadlines to meet, there’s an increase in security. More people underfoot with all the software training and new guards.
Teresa: Oh, and don’t forget Janey and Ken are back from vacation.
Bas: Hard to forget, my sister hasn’t stopped talking since they got back (Bas rolls his eyes), but my number one focus, is loving this woman to the best of my ability.
Teresa: Blind Rage will be released in late March, or early April. We’ll even clear up the whole Miami reference for everyone.
